ABOUT US

Introducing Kona Kats Maine Coons It all started in 2003 when a beautiful, part Maine Coon tabby kitten, named Kimba, came into my life. She and her brother had been rescued from the roadside, and were bottle fed back to health by a rescue organization. My friends had talked me into getting her telling me I needed her and me telling them I didn’t. They were right, I did need her.

KIMBA

Kimba was a special kitten. She and I played hide and seek around every corner of every room, we were a tag team. She loved to chew on lettuce, I would call out “Kimba want salad” and she would come running from wherever she was sleeping. We spent a great but short seven years together. She had her senior checkup November 11, 2010 and was reported healthy, until her blood test came back. Kimba died December 6, 2010, of cholangiohepatitis, the day before my birthday. I could not replace her. Years later another friend was interested in getting a Maine Coon kitten. I went with her and her son to several cat shows where there were beautiful maine coons, I was hooked! Kimba could never be replaced, but I got my first Maine Coon kitten from a great Maine Coon breeder!

HEALTH and BREEDING

We adhere to strict health standards and screenings of our breeding cats. Our breeding cats have all been genetically tested, at U C Davis, to be DNA negative for SMA, PKDef and the one mutation known to cause HCM.

Our breeding cats also receive regular echocardiograms by board certified veterinary cardiologist to rule out HCM. We only breed healthy cats who have been screened to be free of known health issues identified within the Maine Coons population.

DIET

Kona Kats feeds all of our cats and kittens a raw diet plus high quality, grain free, canned food. We offer information and support to all of our new Maine Coon kitten owners on a continuing basis.
